This thesis looks at visual images as psychological and political tools for social action. Social actors produce images to represent and propagate particular versions of social reality. These images are in turn interpreted, transformed, reconstructed, and destroyed by other social actors in a continuous process of negotiating social reality and the power of representing it in the public space.
27.04.2017PhD Thesis by David Marco Carré Benzi: Towards a Cultural Psychology of Science: Economics and Economists in contemporary Chile
The present thesis looks to complement existing social studies of science with a cultural psychological perspective, which is sensitive to the personal nature of the scientific activity but also to the cultural conditions in which scientific knowledge is constructed, without subsuming any of these dimensions into the other. At the same time, it offers a novel perspective on the notorious role that economists have had in contemporary Chilean society, a topic that has been largely addressed as social and institutional.
